Planning guide by Elpidaa Advanced Technologies, Karachi.
Write one testable event rule
State the camera, zone, operating hours and event to review. For example: a person crosses the marked staff-only doorway after closing. Identify the operational owner and agree the evaluation period before viewing results. Keep different event types in separate tests.
Create a representative reference set
Use footage you are authorized to evaluate. Choose periods covering normal activity, difficult lighting and the events of interest before reviewing model output. Have a person label the actual events. Record obscured or ambiguous examples as inconclusive instead of treating them as successful detections. Do not place private footage or credentials in the worksheet.
Record detections and mistakes
For each evaluation period, record correctly matched events (true positives), alerts that do not match the rule (false positives), and labelled events without a matching alert (false negatives). Record camera uptime and the agreed rule for matching an alert to an event so repeated alerts are not counted as extra correct detections.
Calculate metrics without hiding uncertainty
Precision is true positives divided by true positives plus false positives. Recall is true positives divided by true positives plus false negatives. Report a metric as not applicable if its denominator is zero. Keep inconclusive examples, unavailable camera periods and the size of the reference set visible beside the result. A small test is not proof of performance across other sites.
Use an illustrative worked example
An illustrative period with 18 true positives, 2 false positives and 3 false negatives gives 90% precision and approximately 85.7% recall. These are example calculations, not measured Elpidaa results or promised accuracy. Evaluate whether the operator received enough evidence and whether the observed response time suits the workflow.
Record a rollout decision
Agree minimum acceptance criteria before the pilot. At review, record pass, revise or stop, with the operational owner, remaining limitations and required camera or rule changes. Record operator training and support requirements. Repeat relevant checks after a camera moves or the site conditions materially change.
