CCTV ANALYTICS · PRACTICAL ANSWERS

Clear answers before you invest.

Camera compatibility, ANPR, costs and evaluation: a practical starting point for a CCTV analytics project in Karachi or elsewhere in Pakistan.

Prepared by Elpidaa Advanced Technologies, Karachi. These answers explain project planning; performance and commercial terms are agreed for each site.

What is AI video analytics for CCTV?

AI video analytics examines camera images for defined objects or events, such as a person crossing a boundary, a vehicle arriving or visible protective equipment. It helps an operator find footage to review. Useful results depend on the camera view, configuration and response process.

Can AI analytics work with existing CCTV cameras?

Often, but each setup needs checking. Start with the camera and recorder model, authorized RTSP stream access, supported video formats and image quality. An analogue camera may work through a compatible recorder or encoder. A readable stream does not prove that the camera can show the event you need.

What is needed for number plate recognition in Pakistan?

ANPR needs a sufficiently detailed image of the plate at the intended capture point. Evaluate your lane angle, vehicle speed, day and night lighting, and representative plate formats. Measure correct reads, incorrect reads and unreadable plates separately. Gate authorization and manual overrides need their own integration and testing.

How much does a CCTV analytics project cost?

A useful quotation depends on camera count, required analytics, image quality, processing hardware and integrations. Ask for equipment, software, installation, training and recurring support to be priced separately. Elpidaa scopes proposals around the site; the public tools do not provide a binding quotation.

Where are images and video processed?

The public Vision Studio sends selected images and enabled camera frames to Elpidaa’s server for in-memory analysis. An installed CCTV system is separately scoped. Agree the processing location, recording, access permissions, retention, backups and support access before connecting production cameras.

How should a video analytics pilot be evaluated?

Define the events and camera views first, then label representative footage independently. Compare detected events with missed events and false alerts. Test day and night conditions, alert delivery, operator acknowledgement and recovery from camera or network failure. Record the method and limitations before expanding.

Evaluate video analytics ↗

Where does Elpidaa provide site assessments?

Elpidaa is based in Karachi, Pakistan. Share your site area, facility type, approximate camera count and priorities to discuss an assessment. For locations elsewhere in Pakistan, confirm travel, installation and support arrangements in the project scope.

Discuss service coverage ↗

Can cameras reliably check personal protective equipment?

Visible helmets or vests can be assessed only when image detail, viewing angle and lighting are suitable. Occlusion, distance and similar-looking clothing can cause mistakes. Define the equipment and zones to evaluate, keep uncertain cases visible and use human review alongside workplace procedures.

Compare camera rules, a separate analytics system and a public demo

Choose an approach around the workflow you need to evaluate.
ApproachUseful starting pointWhat to confirm
Existing camera or recorder rulesA defined event on a supported camera or recorder.Available rules, firmware, licensing, alert delivery and who reviews events.
Separate analytics systemA scoped workflow across camera streams or integrations.Stream compatibility, compute capacity, data flows, recovery and support.
Public Vision StudioExploring selected images and sampled camera frames.Demo output is a starting point; a site deployment needs its own acceptance test.

What to prepare for a site assessment

  1. City, facility type and the operational problem to solve.
  2. Camera count, model names, recorder details and relevant camera views.
  3. Representative day and night examples you are authorized to share.
  4. The person responsible for reviewing and responding to alerts.
  5. Processing, access and retention requirements for the project.
