Write down the exact equipment
Record camera and recorder model numbers, firmware versions and approximate camera count. A brand name alone does not describe the available streams or integration features. If analogue cameras connect through a DVR, include that recorder in the assessment. Separate the cameras you already have from any additions you are considering.
Check the path to the image
Ask the authorized installer whether the required streams can be accessed by the proposed analytics system. Confirm codec, resolution and frame-rate options for each priority view. Where ONVIF is part of the integration, verify the product and relevant profile in the official conformance database. Do not treat a logo on a sales listing as verification.
Match the view to the task
Review a representative day and night image for each priority. Can a person reviewing that image see the information the analytics is expected to use? A wide shot may be useful for movement while showing too little detail for a number plate or small item of equipment. Note glare, blur, obstruction and the distance to the subject.
Ask for a complete scope
Separate camera changes, recorder access, processing hardware, installation, software licensing, training and support. Identify who owns each part of the system and what information will be handed over. Document items that require a pilot before a final equipment decision.
Share details safely
Use model names and a brief description in the initial enquiry. Do not paste camera passwords or private stream addresses into a public form. Arrange any necessary technical access directly with the team, using a limited account and an agreed purpose.
